Fantasy House Friday! [Kelly Wearstler]

How do I love thee Kelly Wearstler? Let me count the ways...

I've often expressed my love for anything Kelly Wearstler does. Very rarely is there an instance where one of her interiors or products doesn't make my heart flutter with utter joy and amazement.

When Edie was just five months old, we went on an amazing around the world trip, which included a couple of nights in Los Angeles, where I'd booked a little boutique hotel called Maison 140. I don't know what led me to book it as I had not heard of Kelly Wearstler back then, so I wasn't on a design pilgrimage, but I liked the look of it, it was reasonably priced and in a good location.

I dare say, that it was the interiors of Maison 140 on that trip over eleven years ago, that ignited the passion in me that burns stronger every day for beautiful rooms and the beautiful things within them.

So when I realised I'd not included any of her products in a Fantasy House Friday post, I thought I'd better rectify that promptly. I would happily put one of her designs in this post every week, but I suspect that could get a bit tired, not to mention lazy, but do yourself a favour and go for a browse through her retail site, to see modern glamour at it's very best.

I've chosen the Dillon Cabinet (a snip at just over $16,000) because I've had bars on my mind. Maybe because I've not been spending enough time in one, or maybe because I've been thinking about a little bar set up in my current project at home. Sadly it won't include this, more like an ice bucket on a tray, but let's look at it anyway, because it's gorgeous.

Bleached walnut (there's an ebonised version too), with a brass burnished, bronze finished base, perforated doors with bronze casings and mirrored back with adjustable glass shelves. But it doesn't shout, because it doesn't need to.

This is the kind of piece I imagine you'd find in Cameron Diaz's Manhattan apartment. And it's quite possibly the case, given that the divine Ms Wearstler designed it.

Fantasy House Friday!

A while ago (and when I say 'a while' I actually mean over a year ago!) I started a Fantasy House Friday hashtag on Instagram for all the 'slightly' out of reach, dreamy home products that I love, but well, can't have!

I had always meant to move it to the blog, so it would be better documented, but it went a little by the wayside. Well, I'm happy to announce that it's back and it's now right here on the blog. You can expect a new pick each Friday, starting today! Whoop!

I'm going to start this first post off with my favourite past picks, plus today's entry. Bear in mind that these are picks from up to a year or so ago, and some won't be available any more even if you do happen to have the cash. I still don't own any of them, damn it! Remember, it's all in the name of fun, so join me each Friday for some interiors dreaming. Let's go!

And today's pick, because I have rugs on my mind (not unusual!) is this stunning District bamboo silk rug by Kelly Wearstler for The Rug Company. One day I will own a Rug Company rug, which is basically floor art. Or two. But for now, let's dream...

Graphic Wallpaper Love-In

I've been a little under the weather in the last week or so, just completely zapped of energy and having some super early nights, which is why I've been a bit quiet on the blog. Even when presented with the perfect opportunity on the weekend to get some painting done on the never ending stairs, I didn't take it, which is very unlike me.

Instead, I've been having a wallpaper love-in, which took far less energy, and filled my head with ideas. Actually, my head was already, and always is filled with ideas. I have BIG plans to transform the top level of our house (guest room and studio) to make much better use of the space, and that's where the wallpaper comes in. Yes, despite me claiming back in January that I was scared of wallpaper and that I couldn't possibly commit, I'm planning on doing just that soon. And I'm excited.

So excited, that I have barely stopped looking at wallpaper since I decided to go for it. I know what I'd like, but I can't afford it. Typical right?

I'm obsessed with many of Kelly Wearstler's wallpaper designs, but they're eye-wateringly expensive and just not going to happen, so I've been searching for something that still takes my breath away, but not because it costs so much money!

I've found some beautiful designs that I thought I'd share with you today. Soon I'll tell you about my overall plans for these rooms too, but for now, lets look at the wallpaper options. One of these will be 'THE ONE'.

First up is a selection of designs from Feathr. How could you not like a company whose motto is 'More Good Shit, Less Shit Shit'? It was love at first sight for me with Feathr, who work with artists around the world to showcase their wallpaper designs. They're a lovely bunch, and they also have a call for submissions for their 2016/2017 collection on right now, so you can submit a design if you want to.

There are a few designs in their current collection that I've really fallen for, and I can't wait to get my hands on the samples.

Yes, there is very much a monochrome/neutral theme going on here, which I'm really loving right now, but I'm not absolutely wedded to that idea, and there are some amazing colours to choose from too in all of the above designs...

Next up, some more seriously cool designs from newish-to-me US design house Drop It Modern...

Clockwise from top left: Crystalline in Blush/Black/Gray, Crystalline in Sand, Bond Girl in Creme/Black and Kitten in Blush.

How on earth will I choose just one? Whatever my decision, it's going to be bold and beautiful, so watch this space!
