The Thermostat Is Back [Kind Of]

I wanted the title of this post to be ‘Actually interesting and cool stuff I would have shared this week on my Instagram stories, but didn’t, because if I did, Instagram would have massively limited my reach, because Instagram is a dick’.

I KNOW. That would have been super catchy, right!?

Thought I’d even make it a series, then realised it would basically be my short lived series The Thermostat, which I really enjoyed doing and I’m honestly not sure why I stopped. Life, I guess, and sometimes I didn’t find anything I genuinely wanted to share, so maybe this is it making a comeback, but possibly (oh, alright, probably!) not on a weekly basis, just when I’m inspired enough to share. As it turns out, today I have a LOT to share, so here it is…

MY CAT THINKS YOU’RE A DICK

If you know, you know. Looking at you, Instagram, and all the fraudy cheats on it. This print that made me smirk a lot is dropping soon at Harrogate House Interiors, so keep an eye out. Incidentally, they have a big collection of super affordable, cute prints and originals that are really worth checking out.

AVONDALE CEILING ROSE

CSJ Bespoke Plaster Mouldings never fail to make me swoon, and the reel of the detail in their Avondale ceiling rose really stopped me in my tracks. Absolutely stunnnnning.

LOEWE DROPPED A NEW SCENT*

A Roasted Hazelnut scented candle? YES PLEASE. Will be taking myself to Liberty ASAP to sniff. Sounds right up my street, AND the vessel is black. I’ve basically added one to my mental wish list, sight unseen. There’s also a room spray. OMGGGGG.

RINI SPIEL NEW WORK

Not a new artist discovery for me, but I spotted some absolutely beautiful new work by Vienna based artist Rini Spiel, and I’m in love. It looks like her new work might not have made it onto her site yet, so check out her instagram HERE.

LAURA STEPHENS RUGS

Exciting news of a jute rug collaboration between brilliant interior designer Laura Stephens and Bombay Sprout. It’s fab!

THRIFTING QUEEN OF NEW YORK GOES TO PALM SPRINGS

I’ve followed Nancy Cavaliere aka The Queen of Thrifting on instagram since day dot, and the other week she took a trip to Palm Springs to do what she does best. Well, I’m sure she does many things well, but this is definitely up there. She did a tonne of stories, and is currently putting out content around her trip and purchases including, of course, where she went. A must follow / save for a future dream thrifting in Palm Springs trip!

1/MANY

Brilliant artist / linocut extraordinaire, and all-round good guy John Peddar has bought back his 1/Many campaign. Details HERE of how you get hold of a postcard sized piece of art in exchange for a charity donation of your choice. It’s a names in hats and honesty kind of set up, so don’t forget to actually do the charity donation bit! Such a cool initiative, so remember to also go and give all the participating artists some love via the hashtags #oneofmanypostcard #oneofmanypostcards #oneofmanypostcard2024, #oneofmanypostcards2024. Official draw date is 22nd of Feb, so go put your name down for the one/s you love now!

GAMBAS TILE COLLECTION

Maitland and Poate have released their new Gambas collection. A cement tile inspired by a 1920’s design and it comes in nine beautiful colour ways.

IITTALA HAS A NEW LOOK

It’s safe to say that IITTALA’s new look under the creative direction of Janni Vepsäläinen is not going down at all well with some of their fans, as evidenced by the furious comments on every post on their Instagram since the account was wiped clean for this rebrand on the 25th of January. I personally have no dog in this fight, I’ve always loved their product offering, and I’m just finding it completely fascinating to watch it unfold. I’m sure the new look has been worked on extensively for the past year behind the scenes, and no decisions would have been taken lightly. Even heritage brands need to move with the times or be forgotten, right? It seems the main issue is fear of the unknown - collectors worried they might not be able to add to their collections which is fair I guess (although I don’t even know if that’s the case, but regardless, nothing lasts forever!), along with a pretty strong reaction to the new style of imagery being posted. People are wild, and they apparently do not like change! Looks like there are many gorgeous pieces to come as they ‘take themselves off the table’ expanding their product offering. I’ve spied some particularly gorgeous blankets for starters.
